So You Think You Can Vote
A Senior Honors Thesis Project for Carnegie Mellon University highlighting voter suppression in the U.S.
In the United States, voting policies are largely determined by the states. But in recent years, especially after the landmark Supreme Court case, Shelby County v. Holder 2013 which struck down federal preclearance for states with a history of voter suppression, voter access has become an essential question in the face of more and more restrictive policies across the country.
The policies in this game are taken from real laws and procedures in place across different states in the U.S., meant to highlight both the arbitrariness of these laws as well as the real effects they have, even if on paper they might seem harmless.
